You get combos from either getting a perfect or a great. A good, miss, or boo will make you lose your combos. You have to step on the arrow on your dance pad exactly on time to 1/32 off.
Here is an example of when you have a lot of combos.
As you can see, the one on the right has 321 combos on reverse mode. Now that is amazing!
Here is an example of when someone loses their combos.
As you can see, the person on the right was over 1/32 off hitting the note, so they got a boo. If you get too many misses and boos, your ranking at the end of the song will go down.
